The photo above is the closest humanity has ever come to creating Medusa.
If you were to look at this, you would die instantly. End of story.
The image is of a reactor core lava formation in the basement of the Chernobyl nuclear plant. It’s called the Elephant’s Foot and weighs hundreds of tons, but is only a couple meters across.
Oh, and regarding the Medusa thing? This picture was taken through a mirror around the corner of the hallway. Because the wheeled camera they sent up to take pictures of it was destroyed by the radiation.

I wonder if they could get pictures in colour now or maybe get an accurate heat reading off of that thing, if it’s still all there.

It’s crazy to think that something can be that strong that it would kill you by just looking at it. Though it’s understandable. I’d like a heat reading off of it.

oh damn i thought this was a mummy at first. it looked like a crushed skull to me, like the very bottom is almost a face… damn ive been reading too much junji ito. but also holy shit this is terrifying and cool

That’s really badass

Surprise surprise this is bullshitWhile the Elephant’s Foot exists, it won’t ‘kill you instantly’ just by looking at it.“As the material was dangerously radioactive and hard and strong, and using remote controlled systems was not possible due to high radiation interfering with electronics,[33] shooting at it from an AK-47 was used to split off chunks for analysis.”Wow, sure sounds like you’d have to be looking at it in order to fire the AK-47 at it!I’m not saying the thing wouldn’t kill you because lol it was highly radio-active and no shit it’d kill you if you went in there, probably even if you were properly protected, but to assume just LOOKING AT THE DAMN THING would make you drop dead in a second is just preposterous and ridiculous.Oh, and I couldn’t find anything on people dropping dead instantly from this specific thing except on tumblr. There were immediate deaths in Chernobyl via exposure (firefighters, etc) however, ‘immediate’ is relative, and I doubt they literally stopped living the second they went there because holy shit that’s not how dying works.

Naw man it’s really self conscious it doesn’t like to be looked at.

Yea I was kinda doubtful from the first time I saw it; looked it up and they said something like..it would take a few days possibly if you got close to it but it would be certain death. STILL SCARY AS HELL THOUGH
